Having Your Mind on the Harvest!
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. Proverbs 11:30 KJV
God has promised wisdom for the soul-winner, and the fruit of the righteous is that we reproduce souls in like kind as our Father. The fruit of a soul-winner will be like the sustaining fruit of the tree of life.
I believe it is important that we understand the great blessings and benefits God has placed on the Gospel and on the soul-winner. I have shared below some of the promises God has promised those that support and preach the Gospel. I have always found that the greatest times of breakthrough for my ministry and me is when my mind is on the harvest.
Join us in the urgent need of the hour. As one great missionary said, “Sympathy is no substitute for action” (David Livingstone).
He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son. Proverbs 10:5 NIV
Do you not say, “There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest”? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. John 4:35 NASB
We need to have our eyes open to the harvest. A new vision of the harvest is key to receiving the harvest today and not months from now. God wants to give us a burden and passion to reach people with the Gospel (grace) today. Like this great missionary, Count Nicolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf, said, “I have but one passion: It is He, it is He alone. The world is the field and the field is the world; and henceforth that country shall be my home where I can be most used in winning souls for Christ.”
I believe God has ordained great blessings on and for those that honor the harvest. I have listed below some of the specific promises that the Lord will give us that are connected to the harvest and evangelism. My prayer is that you will have a new passion for sharing the grace of God and support the Gospel in a new way. “If your Gospel isn’t touching others, it hasn’t touched you!” (Curry R. Blake).
1. We Reap Only What Has Been Sown
Whatever we sow, we reap; so that, if we sow good, we will reap good. This principle as stated in Galatians 6 is a harvest law.
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for WHATEVER a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit shall from the Spirit reap eternal life. Galatians 6:7-8 NASB
The seed we sow to the harvest is also going to come back to us as harvest! When we sow into the fertile ground of evangelism, we will reap harvest in our own lives and family. I expect my seed to reap as I sow. I sow seed for souls and I want a harvest and soul-winning anointing. We will reap what we sow.
2. Immediate Reward and Eternal Wages
We receive true wages for evangelism and the blessing is a harvest for eternal life, but there’s also an immediate reward of rejoicing.
Even NOW the one who reaps draws a WAGE and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. John 4:36 NIV
The reward today in supporting the Gospel is a hundredfold return in this lifetime and a future rejoicing. This verse is a promise of multiplication:
“‘Truly I tell you,’ Jesus replied, ‘no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for Me and the Gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields – along with persecutions – and in the age to come eternal life'” (Mark 10:29-30 NIV).
God’s endless supply in our lives is connected to seeking and doing Kingdom first in our lives:”But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33 KJV). God provides everything the soul-winner needs like relationship, material blessings, wealth, health, wisdom, etc.
3. Our Brightness Like the Stars
And they that be WISE shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. Daniel 12:3 KJV
Soul-winners who turn many to righteousness shall shine “as the stars for ever and ever” according to God’s Word! The promise is also a promise of wisdom.
4. Crowns, Joy, and Rejoicing
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. Psalm 126:5-6 KJV
In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. Luke 15:10 NIV
There are great crowns and rewards in Heaven at the judgment seat of Christ for our evangelism. “But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous” (Luke 14:13-14 NIV).
The apostle Paul was also motivated by future rewards in his work. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10 KJV). These are some of the crowns and eternal rewards listed in the Bible that we receive in Heaven:
– The incorruptible crown, for those who live a disciplined life (see I Corinthians 9:25);
– The crown of life, for those who patiently endure trials and testings (see James 1:12);
– The crown of glory, for those who faithfully care for the flock (see 1 Peter 5:2-4);
– The crown of righteousness, for those who love His appearing (see 2 Timothy 4:8);
– The crown of rejoicing, for all who are faithful soul-winners (see 1 Thessalonians 2:19-20).
One day we all will appear before the Lord and our works and lives will be tested with fire (see 1 Corinthians 3:11-15). For some it will be a time of great joy, and for others it will be a time of regret. Below are some of the promises for works done in the Spirit motivated by love and grace.
The Blessings of Kingdom Works
– Healing and divine health – Exodus 23:25-26; Exodus 15:26;
– Fruitfulness – Luke 1:5-9, 24-25; Psalm 92:12-15
– It guarantees long life – Psalm 91:14-16; Exodus 23:26
– You work in the realm of signs and wonders – Mark 16:17-18
In all of our Kingdom service, we must remember our good works do not earn us a greater position of righteousness or holiness. “He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5 NASB). The Bible makes it very clear that salvation is a free gift; our behavior has absolutely nothing to do with it. However, our behavior and work (if good) as true Christians will be rewarded, and the reward is referred to as an “inheritance.”
5. Answered Prayers
God has promised that we would ask and receive in response to our fruit bearing. There is favor in prayer when we are doing Kingdom works that He has ordained. We have a divine hookup to Him in prayer. The primary reason for our calling is to bear lasting fruit. We are charged with the responsibility of bringing others to Christ and developing them to maturity.
You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. John 15:16 NASB
6. Divine Empowerment
God anoints the soul-winner (see Acts 1:8). The anointing is given for a purpose: to bring the lost back to God. Our single motivation for the power of God must be to set the captives free. The reason for the anointing is to destroy the bondage and be a fiery witness. If you want to see God’s power in your life and home in a greater way, be a witness.
7. Authority and Presence
Jesus promised all authority to the Believer and that His manifest presence would remain with us as we did the work of the Gospel to the ends of the world!
And Jesus came and spoke unto them, say, “All power is given unto Me in Heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:18-20 KJV
8. Personal Breakthrough
We also see that there are many personal promises and blessings for the Believer that helps the poor and needy, as David shares in this Psalm:
“Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them in times of trouble. The Lord protects and preserves them – they are counted among the blessed in the land – He does not give them over to the desire of their foes. The Lord sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness”(Psalm 41:1-3 NIV).
We have a promise of healing, blessing, restoration, protection, and deliverance in this verse when we help the poor and support the weak.
Breakthrough in Giving Now!
You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. 2 Corinthians 9:7-8 NLT
God’s key to plenty and overflow is giving cheerfully and freely to the Lord. Let’s give today to the harvest and support the Gospel and expect His blessing on our seed. The blessings above are promised in our support of evangelism and soul-winning.
